Starts alongside a lake, very peaceful
Nice Rimu trees, very easy to recognise, very straight
Up past some mildly impressive limestone cliffs
and soon (well, would you believe a few hours of slog up the hill) out above the treeline to the hut
with a nice view
It hadn't taken quite as long, or as much effort as expected, so after a rest we set out in the late afternoon to climb Mt Luxmore
Quite a lot higher, as it turned out, and colder....
But worth it when we got to the top
we also crawled into some limestone caves - although not as far as some wanted to go Limestone caves
